The last 18 months have seemed like both an eternity and like time has gone by in a flash.This past year, we’ve been able to continue to grow and support makers and DIY’ers alike around the country who are making their own furniture. Just as so many others have faced challenging times recently, our team is facing headwinds at home and work. In these past few months we’ve navigated supply chain challenges, COVID cases, and the latest battle, the wildfire season in the West.
Currently, our lead times are being impacted by a combination of factors where raw steel products are shipping up to a week over stated lead times and powder coated products potentially up to 2 weeks longer than stated. We are doing all that we can to first, hold lead times steady, and then improve back to our targeted lead times of 1-3 days for raw steel goods and 3-5 days for powder coated items.
The first major impact was due to health concerns surrounding COVID-19, which, for the safety of our team, led us to reduce operations at our Wisconsin facility that produces our hairpin leg product line. We are thankful to report that our team is doing well and we are working to ramp capacity back up this week for our wire-formed goods.
The operation that we run in Minden, NV has also been impacted recently for health concerns of a different kind… the Caldor fire that is spewing smoke and risking the lives and wellbeing of so many in our neighboring communities. The Caldor fire is now the number one priority for the country’s firefighting resources. It’s scary. It’s large and it’s been going on for some time. The impact to our team so far has been another month of enduring smoky conditions. However, with the wind pouring over the Sierras, our facility in Nevada gets swallowed in an unprecedented layer of poor air quality. Safety is our primary concern for our team, always. These conditions have resulted in our decision to limit operations based on air quality which impacts the capacity we have to produce.
Both of these external factors have caused our capacity to decrease which increases our lead times. Adding to these two major challenges are the issues happening with the global supply chain and our continued growth. To say it simply, we’re running a little further behind than we like to be. Our team will continue to practice the utmost in safety precautions from the CDC and our local, city, state and federal governments as well as our own internal guidelines to take care of our team the best we can.
Our team is working day and night to continue to catch up and add capacity as we support more customers making their own furniture. We will continue to keep you informed as we make headway.
